Science Fairs
The East Kootenay region is host to an annual science fair for students grades 8-12. This fair is one of 13 regional fairs held in British Columbia and over 100 held each year across Canada. Winners of the regional fairs have the opportunity to represent BC at the Canada-wide Science Fair.
Science fairs provide students the opportunity to experience the thrill and challenge of scientific research. They expose students to opportunities for careers in science and technology. They also help young people to develop important skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork and personal time management.
Regional science fairs succeed through community involvement. Educators, professional scientists, engineers, technologists and corporate individuals volunteer as judges, mentors and role models for BC students. Student projects are often linked to or profile local issues or endeavors. Local business and community organizations are important sponsors for regional science fairs. They help finance programs and ensure that all eligible students are able to participate in science fairs at all levels; regionally, nationally and internationally.
A proud supporter of the East Kootenay Regional Science Fair, the KRIC endeavors to establish links with regional science and technology companies for volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.
Contact the KRIC for more information on how you or your company can get involved.
