Business Coach – Contract Position

Description:

The Business Coach contributes support, information and referrals as well as direct business and marketing services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs located in the East Kootenay. The KRIC Business Coach(es) provides one-on-one business coaching/mentoring, linking and networking services, creating awareness in the entrepreneurial community about available Provincial, Federal, Regional, Association resources , provide business and technical advice as appropriate, assist in initiating industrial clusters in the region to assist SMEs, and assist in linking entrepreneurs and SMEs to research expertise provided through technology transfer programs.

Duties and Responsibilities (depending on skill in these areas)  could include:

  1. Provide prompt response to client inquiries, including an assessment of client needs and a summary of service options;
  2. Maintain client confidentiality, avoid situations of actual or perceived conflict of interest, use information provided by client for the sole purpose of determining the optimum way to provide assistance and direction to the client;
  3. Conduct site visits and provide advisory service and guidance, encompassing both technology and related business perspectives;
  4. Interact with local innovation and technology companies and facilitate connections between companies, and between companies and KRIC;
  5. Conduct client follow-ups as needed;
  6. Inform KRIC Executive Director of trends and issues affecting the economy and innovation climate;
  7. Work with KRIC Executive Director to foster and develop relationships with stakeholders and agencies to enhance the ability to respond quickly and effectively to client queries;
  8. Assist in the development and access to markets by promoting clustering or networking of SME’s to promote themselves to similar markets;
  9. Create awareness and assist in bridging the gap between ideas and the market and by providing peer to peer mentoring;
  10. Promote and publicize programs and refer technology-based enterprises to resource assistance from federal, provincial and other agencies such as Export Development Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Basin Business Advisors, Small Business BC, and Community Futures Development Corporations;
  11. Support and provide input for workshops and forums on issues of importance to businesses wishing to innovate (sometimes this could also include co-ordination thereof);
  12. Ensure and maintain a consistent quality of referrals; and
  13. Participate in meetings, regional trade shows and community initiatives as directed by KRIC.
