delicious.com: An alternative search engine

Nobody really even uses the term search engine anymore. "Just google it" is an everyday term.

But if you're after results from a specific group of people, say web / computer savvy individuals, rather than anyone with a blog or who has paid for a "sponsored link", then it can really pay to look somewhere other than google.

For example, let's say you want to create a survey for your website or organisation, to get feedback from customers and potential customers.

Now, a google search will give you 2 or 3 sponsored results at the top, and then pages and pages of results. But, to get a more informed set of results on a web technology, such as a web survey tool, it's important to search a more informed set of data.

Delicious.com is an online bookmarking tool. This means that when people find something that they want to book mark for future reference, they can bookmark it on delicious.com and subsequently access their bookmarks from any computer.
That's where online bookmarks come in to play, and using them as a search engine.

So let's take the example of searching for a tool to create online surveys. The results listed below indicate the popularity of the site / tool based on actual user visits / bookmarks, rather than an unknown google algorhythm / payment.

An added benefit of this search process is that the research has almost been done for you, in that, as opposed to testing each result that might be returned from a google search to ascertain which solution is the most appropriate, the delicious.com results show you which solutions should, in theory be the most valid.

Happy searching!
